Kedondong is a tropical fruit that comes from the family Anacardiaceae.The tree in English is called Ambarella, Otaheite apple. In Southeast A called by various names, likely:  Hevi (Philippines), Gway (Myanmar), Mokah (Cambodia), Kook kvaan (Laos), Makak farang (Thailand), and Co'c (Vietnam). The fruit is a tropical plant from South Asia and Southeast Asia. The spread of this plant cover throughout the tropics. The tree widely grown in the countries of Southeast Asia, one of countries that became centers of cultivation of kedondong is Philippines, because there  is having a kedondong types namely superior Spondias purpurea L.


In Indonesia one of producing region of them is Karimunjawa (Jepara, middle of Java). The types of superior fruit, widely grown by farmers in Indonesia include kedondong karimunjawa, kedondong bangkok and kedondong Kendeng. The size of Kedondong karimunjawa is very big rich to 1kg. The plants can produce the fruit in arround the year, with oval fruit shape and weighing 0.7 to 1 kg / fruit.
