Garlic chives commonly known as Chinese chives, Oriental garlic, Chinese leek, also known by the Japanese name nira, is a vegetable related to onion. The Chinese name for this species is variously such as Cuchay, jiucai, kucai, kuchay, or Kutsay in Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The unique flavor of garlic chives is sweet and garlicky. Garlic chives grow as clumps, but also readily sprouts from seed. In warmer areas, garlic chives may remain green all year base on watering. Different condition if Garlic in cold areas, leaves of garlic chives will die completely and will re-sprout in spring time.

In Manipur, India, garlic chives most popular in locally known as 'Maroi nakuppi' are widely used in Manipuri cuisine dishes like "Ooti". The most of Korean cuisine used Garlic chives such as buchu jeon (garlic chive pancakes), Buchu kim chi (garlic chive kimchi) or Jae cheop guk (a guk, or clear soup, made with garlic chives and Asian clams). Garlic chives as well as complementary food and flavoring also has other benefits. Garlic chives are also good for the treatment of high blood pressure.
