Lamtoro, petai china, or banana shrubs Selong is a kind of tribe Fabaceae (Leguminosae, legumes), this plant is widely used for reforestation or erosion prevention. Lamtoro plants originated from tropical America, for centuries has been introduced to Java for the benefit of agriculture and forestry which then spread to other islands in Indonesia.

This plant is also known by various other designations such as pĕlĕnding, Peuteuy Selong (Sd.); kemlandingan, mètir, lamtoro and lamtoro gung (lamtoro great; for larger-bodied varieties) (Jw.); and kalandhingan, lantoro (Md.). Names in various foreign languages, among them:
petai belalang, petai jawa (Mly.); lamandro (PNG); ipil-ipil, elena, kariskis (Fil.); krathin (Thai); leucaena, white leadtree (Ingg.); dan leucaene, faux mimosa (Prc.).
